For a small investment you can get a firepit.  These have been used since man could first start a fire, but today they come in a full range of design and options. They range from $100 to $3,000.Fuel type, decorations and size will be the biggest factors towards cost.A larger item will be more expensive.Despite the cost a propane or LP fire pit might be a good option.Pits with intriquite designs or additional tile and stone features look great, but also cost more.

Similar to the fire pit is the chiminea.Originally the chimney was used to keep the rain away from the fire.  Fire pits are usually better for doing s’mores with lots of people, but if you interested in heating the area and getting the smoke above everyone’s head a chiminea might be a good choice.

Propane patio heaters offer heat without the smoke.A propane tank is concealed in the base and can produce vast amounts of heat.  They are easily portable and if you have a larger deck you may want to consider having more than one.

There are also additional accessories that can be used with these items.  One of the more common of which is a cover.  It keeps the rain and other small animals away.  Small animals like the warmth and the cover will help keep them away.

To get more value out of your deck you can consider one of these several heating options to extend the usefulness of your deck and keep your guests warm and happy.    Not to mention it is a great ice breaker for new friends and neighbors.  It gives something for everyone to talk about and makes a perfect excuse for bringing over smore’s and other tasty treats.
