Making Your Deck Safe and Fun For The Family

Whether you have bought a house with an attached deck, or have gone to the expense of adding a deck to an existing house, you will want to get the most use out of this space as possible.  A deck is attractive because it has the capability of serving as an extra room during the warm climate and can at times be the most popular area of the house. It is definitely worth taking steps to have the deck well lighted during evening hours so that it can be enjoyed after the sun sets.  Some popular choices over the years have been flood lights, candle lanterns, or even tiki torches. While these get the job done, we now have the opportunity to choose LED deck lighting to illuminate the deck safely and inexpensively.

Low voltage deck lighting is safe and uses very little heat compared to standard bulbs.  While candle options and torches are attractive, there is the concern that an accident could accidently result causing danger and possible injury.  If being green is important to you, remember that LED bulbs are known to be energy efficient and have many advantages over traditional incandescent lights.  They reduce energy consumption by 80% and outlast other types of bulbs. There is minimal maintenance required  and they last a longer time that many other types.

Choices When Purchasing LED Lighting

Pathway LED Paver Light –These are designed to be recessed and provide needed security lighting, and can be installed on the steps leading to the deck.  These lights can also be placed around the deck floor itself providing needed guidance to move around after dark.

Rope Lighting – This accent lighting is available in a clear or a variety of colors and can be used around the deck rail, the roof, the deck itself to accent and beautify the deck to your liking.  Rope lighting is inexpensive and can add a party atmosphere to your deck.

LED flood light – Flood lights can be used as a motion detector or for light sensitive security around the deck area.  Consider the size of your deck to adjust the number of flood lights you may need.

Enjoy your evenings with a deck that is lighted providing safety and security.

Fun With Patio Umbrella Lights

Many people have patio umbrellas on the patios for providing a cooling shade in the afternoon or sheltering them from a light rain on a summer’s day.  Not many people know about a fun accessory that can be used with their patio umbrellas called patio umbrella lights.  Most people don’t want to take their patio umbrella in at night or fold it down at night.  Sitting under a patio umbrella at night can be kind of dark because the umbrella will likely block a lot of the light from your patio lighting fixture.

Installing a patio umbrella light on your patio umbrella can solve this problem and make sitting under the patio umbrella at night quite relaxing.  Most patio umbrella lights are battery powered and use LED bulbs.  It’s good that they use LED light bulbs because  LED’s are very efficient and don’t use very much battery power at all.

There are a couple of types of patio umbrella lights to choose from.  There are light fixtures that have a hole in the middle of them like a doughnut.  These are generally round or octagon in shape and have multiple LED light bulbs around the perimeter of the fixture.  Some are designed to sit on your patio table and some are designed to hang near the top of your patio umbrella and shine light down on you.

Another type of patio umbrella light his rope lighting.  Rope lighting is basically clear plastic tubing with several small LED light bulbs spaced about 2 inches apart. Rope lighting can be wrapped around the patio umbrella shaft and then woven in between the spars of the patio umbrella to create a fun effect.

Adding patio umbrella lights to your patio umbrella, can promote a very relaxing and soothing atmosphere for you and your friends or significant other to enjoy.  It’s actually quite surprising how much these little lights can do to change the atmosphere of your patio.
